Follow me over here...
As you know Mike Paduano and I have been posting on this site together but I have recently initiated our breakup. We both kind of agree that it would make more sense to just post on our own seperate accounts. So you can now follow me at http://marctytus.com where I will be posting from now on. EDIT: Follow Mike over at http://michaelpaduano.tumblr.com. (That’s if you really care. We all...

American Greetings vs. Mike Paduano
I know that it isn’t much, but today I found out just how easy it is to beat the American Greetings system (they sell memberships for online e-cards). After taking full advantage of my 30-day free trial (I sent 4 e-cards), I called to cancel my subscription before I was charged the annual fee of $15.99. Jim, my American Greetings representative, enthusiastically informed me that not only...

Rest in peace, Ted.
It is with great sadness that the Board of Directors of Rogers Communications Inc. announces the death of our colleague, leader and friend, Edward Samuel “Ted” Rogers, the founder of the company, a visionary communications industry pioneer and an icon in Canadian business. He was 75.

Paul Rudd
rickyv: Anna and I were walking home from seeing Role Models yesterday (highly recommended if you like good mainstream comedies with heart) and started talking about Paul Rudd. The conclusion we quickly came to is that he could be America’s awesomest human. Besides being a total dreamboat in the looks department, he somehow manages to perfectly straddle the pop/indie entertainment worlds. He...

The Killers on a Monday
Here’s my favorite track from The Killers new album “Day & Age”, released last Monday. With respect to the album as a whole…it’s pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good. Not great. I think a friend of mine summed it up pretty well when he said that if this was an LP record, side A would be on constant repeat and side B would almost never get played. Anyway, check...

Good to know...
…that I can always just buy one of these if I don’t get my G license by April. NO LICENSE REQUIRED - that’s my kind of motor vehicle. I was walking down Princess Street in Kingston a few days ago when I spotted it. I realize that it’s perfectly legal. It just seems mildly funny to me.

A video from earlier this year taken during a party at our house in Guelph. I wanted to make sure everyone got equal facetime with the camera. I’m pretty sure there was music playing but you just can’t hear it in the clip. Like always, it’s probably more entertaining if you were there.

Back home with Rogers Wireless
Classes are over. I handed in my very last assignment today and it feels great knowing I’m going to do very well on that. I decided to come back home today to study for exams. First thing I did at home was call Rogers to update my wireless plan to take advantage of a new, unadvertised value pack: $30 for unlimited text messaging, caller id, visual voicemail and 500mb of data. I traded my...

My cool older siblings got a kick out of me saying this when I was younger. Of course, you don’t have to be young to not get it. Click the link if you’re confused.

GREAT Vampire Weekend remix courtesy of Chromeo
Chromeo’s remix of Vampire Weekend’s The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance has been one of the most blogged-about tracks of the past week, and deservingly so. I hereby declare it my new party anthem of December/08. Check out the track below. For another really great Vampire Weekend remix, check out The Teenagers’ remix of Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa. A link is available via my Hype...

Bon Iver, new & old
Bon Iver just announced that they’ll be releasing a new EP, entitled “Blood Bank”, on January 20 in Canada and the U.S. I was lucky enough to catch Bon Iver play two of the EP’s tracks this past summer in New York and I have to admit that I wasn’t immediately blown away. A friend of mine described the tracks as sounding very Coldplay-ish. Regretfully, I think...

Pretty nice weekend spent mostly at home. I’ll have to post something about it later but while I was home I found this old video and decided to upload it. It’s of me at work last summer at eMotion. That desk was only temporary, by the way; kind of annoying to be beside the fridge and coffee machine. So yes, enjoy.

I’m finally starting to feel better. The night before last I had a terrible sleep and was positive I had E coli. I was freezing cold and couldn’t sleep. My stomach was cramped and my neck was just as bad. I had a terrible headache and my throat felt like I was ready to throw up even though I knew I wasn’t actually going to. I was also foaming out of the mouth. Considering all...

OK - so this is far from the kind of media I initially intended on posting to this site, but this short speech is unbelievable. It is in regards to California’s Proposition 8, which would “restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman.” I really don’t see how anyone can argue in favor of Proposition 8 given the argument Olbermann lays out in this...

Smells like coney
Brothers Nelson and James Hawkins (pictured above) make their estebanwasEATEN.com debut with Coney, an ode to to a family friend who has a strange obsession with coney sauce. Apparently coney sauce is a pretty popular hot dog condiment, though I still haven’t found anyone else who has even heard of it.  Anyway, check out their song Coney below if you’re in the mood for something a...

LIAR!!!
OK - no one lied, they just kind of forgot to tell us about one minor detail. I am surprised that I only found this out a couple of days ago - Feist did not write her massively successful single “1234”. The song was written by Melbourne, Australia native Sally Seltmann, who records under the name New Buffalo. Feist’s people did a great job of hiding this, and why...

Four UofG students get E. coli... →
“The University of Guelph has now learned from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health that the four confirmed cases of E. coli 0157 are all U of G students. To date, the only commonality among the four students is that they ate at the Pita Pit in the University Centre, so as a precaution, the University is voluntarily closing the UC Pita Pit until Public Health completes its...

Showers
Don’t worry; though most of my essays are quite controversial, I won’t be going into showers vs. baths. In elementary school, someone on the school bus was accusing me of taking cold showers. I retorted saying I once took a shower so hot I collapsed when I got out of the shower. A small exaggeration, yes, but I do remember that one time. I kill so much time in the shower. I have no...

Courted by Cadbury; The future of music as it...
After two years of fighting the Queen’s Commerce system with everything I had, I finally caved. I recently applied for an interview with Cadbury as a marketing intern, the equivalent of an associate brand manager. After a 45-minute on-campus interview, the candidate pool was narrowed down to only four of us. Last Wednesday, Cadbury brought us in to its Toronto headquarters to meet its...

Mike's thoughts on M.I.A's 'Paper Planes'
Yes, just like everyone else, I love this song. It still has the same resounding effect every time someone puts it on about 45 minutes into a playlist at a party. While I think that anyone who uses their hands to imitate the gunshot and cash register sounds during the chorus looks like a total ass (see image above), I have a very important question.  Everyone knows what to do with the gunshot...

JERRY MAGUIRE
It is absolutely the most perfect afternoon to grab some Pizza Hut and throw on Jerry Maguire. No matter how many times I’ve seen it, I will always come back to this movie at least once a year. It has EVERYTHING I look for in a film: comedy, a wicked/believable romance, a middle-aged guy trying to come to terms with his place in the world, and Tom Petty’s “Free...

I am so happy to have been given the pleasure of posting this essay from Ahren Brunow, who is a very good friend of both Mike and I, and who is also a University of Guelph undergrad. Baby corn scares the shit out of me.
I made a great, tasty mix of different vegetables with chicken and noddles, and other crap today, and I did my best to avoid ANY baby corn. It was definitely a conscious decision, but one I forgot about until I was almost finished my bowl. Sitting at the bottom, among some chickpeas and celery, was an ear of baby corn. I think I may have made an audible gasp when it caught my eye. A mutant! What...

New Bloc Party
Bloc Party’s new album “Intimacy” (released digitally in August) is finally seeing its physical release today. Included on the physical release are two new tracks. Check out the stronger of the two, “Letter To My Son” , below. I’m really enjoying it. It’s definitely the closest they’ve come to achieving the same kind of raw sound that made...

Vidblog?
Sorry for the huge amount of video posts lately and lack of essays. I think the posted videos are unique and definitely worth watching, but they’re not the focus of this site.
